Make a Bow-Repair Kit

Whether you’re hunting near home or far away, a bow-repair kit can save your day or the entire hunting trip if screws loosen, strings fray or other bad stuff happens to your bow.

A bow-repair kit is a first-aid kit for bows. It contains basic tools and supplies for making common repairs. These kits are light and compact, so you can stuff one into your backpack for field repairs.

What You Need

The most-used tool in your kit is an Allen or Torx wrench. Just bring the sizes you need for your bow, sight and arrow rest.

You’ll also need serving material to repair your bowstring’s serving. A 3-foot section handles most repairs. You’ll also need a butane lighter to melt the serving’s tag end, and a sharp knife to cut away old serving.

Super glue quickly reattaches loose fletching. A dab of glue secures fletching to the shaft, and the arrow is ready to shoot in minutes.

Also consider adding D-loop material to your kit in case you damage the loop you’ve been using.

A bow-repair kit, of course, is useless if you don’t know how to use its items. Watch the video above to learn how to use your kit.
